Baseball is a favorite game of the Americans. No wonder it is the national sport of the United States of America. No one can say with much certainty when this game originated but according to some accounts it is said to have begun some 160 years ago in New York Baseball is played with a bat and a ball between two teams of nine members each. Both teams take turns to bat and score runs. The team that makes the highest score wins the match. The popularity of the game is evident from the fact that it is telecast live and has lots of sponsors, not to mention the contracts worth multi-million dollars.

Baseball is not just spring training, but has a regular season and playoffs. The dreams and sentiments of many citizens are associated with this game. What's more, the passions for baseball have only increased with time and continue to grow. Its popularity is passed on from generation to generation and little boys and girls are even more enthusiastic baseball players.

There are two major baseball leagues. These major baseball leagues are also referred as the two national league. The national league and the American league. Both have joint organizational structure. American league teams include Anaheim Angels, Chicago White Sox, Baltimore Orioles, Oakland Athletics, Cleveland Indians, Boston, Red Sox, Seattle Mariners, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Kansas City Royals, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Minnesota Twins, and Toronto Blue Jays where as national league includes Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, Colorado Rockies, Cincinnati Reds, Florida Marlins, Los Angeles Dodgers, Houston Astros, Montreal Expos, San Diego Padres, Milwaukee Brewers, New York Mets, San Francisco Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals. In addition to these major leagues there are minor leagues at the lower level of sports and are played in small cities and towns as compared to major leagues. These minor league are usually under the control of major leagues and are used for discovering and honing young talent.

The various awards for the game of baseball include Most Valuable Player and Cy Young Awards, Rookie of the Year, Rolaids Relief Awards, All-Star Game MVP Awards, Manager of the Year Awards, National League Gold Glove Awards, American League Gold Glove Awards, National League Silver Slugger Awards American League Silver Slugger Awards, Hall Of Fame Inductees, Pitching, Batting and Managerial Stats, Batting by Position and The Sporting News Pitchers and Players of the Year.

Baseball's popularity is such that anything and everything related to this game is up for grabs. Baseball apparel, memorabilia, books, movies and equipments are sold like hot cakes. More people are getting addicted to this game over time. Baseball's popularity is inherent in the fact that the updated scores and season statistics are available online and on cellular networks. Baseball is America's outdoor sport and is an integral part of the American sensibility.
